Is GMP’s Kingdom Community Wind Project a good neighbor?

Is GMP’s Kingdom Community Wind Project a Good Neighbor? - Robbin Clark | Caledonian Record | May 6, 2016 | www.caledonianrecord.com

Is GMP’s Kingdom Community Wind Project a good neighbor?

That would depend on who you would ask. If you ask one of the closest neighbors to the project you would probably get a negative response. If you ask a resident in Lowell away from the project you would probably get thumbs up answer and this is due to the reduction in property taxes.

Many neighbors have been asking GMP for a Continuous Noise Monitoring Plan (CNMP) with an action plan in place to reduce the noise impacts on the neighbors. This was also asked of the PSB during the technical hearings which was denied until GMP violated the noise condition of the CPG in 2013 of which the PSB ordered one year of continuous monitoring (which was just completed, with results just trickling in now). Now it is in our legislator’s hands being addressed by bill S230 which will have no effect on current operating projects. We the neighbors are collateral damage.

In recent editorials Annette Smith versus Mary Powell, this became personal for Ms Powell. It had nothing to do with gender. It was about a company putting profits before the health and welfare of the neighbors of Industrial Wind Projects.

Having spent time in Montpelier the last few weeks it is very clear why we are in this mess as there are more lobbyists in the state house than legislators and they are not required to wear name badges or disclose what industry they represent. I find it extremely troubling as there is a revolving door in Montpelier, legislators becoming lobbyists and vice versa; our democratic system is broken.

Is GMP’s Kingdom Community Wind project a good neighbor? The verdict is still out. Until we get a Continuous Noise Monitoring Plan with real-time data, an action plan in place to reduce the noise impacts on the neighbors, problems will ensue. Go to windreporting.org to report impacts. Let’s protect the health and welfare of our neighbors. Let’s put people before profits. Vermont lives should matter as much as Peep the duck!
