Learn how wind turbines can affect homes

I want to thank the Watertown Daily Times for providing much time to covering all the industrial wind development issues in our area and for even setting up a special area on their home page, under “Special Sections”, that is called “NNY Wind Power.”
Some people might wonder why many of us are alarmed at the possibility of 500-foot tall industrial wind turbines surrounding our homes. The website wind-watch.org shows the many negative effects that other people are experiencing around our country from industrial wind turbines being installed too close to homes. Some home owners could not even sell their homes but had to abandon their homes because no one would buy them at any cost. Outside Depauville, back in 2008, an industrial wind developer wanted to put as many as 32 industrial wind turbines that were 476-feet tall within a mile and half of some homes.
In a Watertown Daily Times story dated March 22 titled, “Hudson Energy exploring wind project in six southern Jefferson County towns,” you can read how wind developer William Moore is looking at possibly putting up industrial wind turbines in the towns of Henderson, Hounsfield, Adams, Rodman, Ellisburg and Lorraine. The developer did not say how tall the turbines would be, but the ones proposed for Galloo Island are for 575 feet. And elsewhere industrial wind turbines are going up to 626 feet tall. Industrial wind turbines can definitely affect property values of homes in the area.
We need to warn farmers and landowners to not sign an industrial wind lease with any developer without going first to wind-watch.org or lakeontarioturbines.com and read how farmers and large landowners are taken advantage of and learn about the pitfalls of signing up without hiring a lawyer to protect you and your land. These wind leases are very one-sided and are written so the farmer can never get out of it if they are not happy.
If you live in or near one of those six towns that might get industrial wind turbines, you should be getting educated about them and getting involved with your local town board and planning boards before it’s too late. The developer will also need to put power lines in to connect all the turbines and these lines might have to go through your property. Go to wind-watch.org today.
