Inishowen activist group outraged at “destruction” by wind turbine parts

The Inishowen Wind Energy Awareness Group has released photographs of the damage done by transporting wind turbine parts in Inishowen.

Speaking on the matter, a representative of the group said, “Nature has to give way to money! I have never ever seen such devastation at cut back trees. The branches are not cut but slashed, broken and twisted off the trees. The cracks are wide open for mould, fungus and gathering rainwater. No tree can survive this. Hedge cutting time is long gone, so the hedges in the way of profit are moved not only once but twice into a new better fitting position. Come and have a look for yourself.”

According to the local reports, Donegal County Council confirmed nine applications for Wide load/Abnormal permits have been submitted to Donegal County Council in respect of Crockbrack Wind Farm. Six for short loads have been permitted and three further applications for long loads are still being considered.

A number of Inishowen Councillors have claimed that the developer of the Crockbrack Windfarm has “disrespected” the council departments, broken conditions placed on the developer on several occasions by An Bord Pleanala and disrespected the local community.
