Rudd moves to kibosh wind boost

reNEWS | 19/04/2016 | renews.biz

Energy Secretary Amber Rudd has tabled an Energy Bill amendment to remove legislation introduced by the Lords which broadens the grace period criteria for onshore wind farms affected by the early closure of the Renewables Obligation.

Rudd’s amendment seeks to annul Labour’s energy spokesman Lord Grantchester’s amendment 7T, which was passed by the Lords on 12 April.

The Labour amendment introduced a one-year grace period for projects where the relevant planning authority had resolved to grant planning permission for a wind farm by 18 June 2015.

The new Rudd amendment will be voted on in the House of Commons during tomorrow evening’s Energy Bill debate.

The bill, which started in the Lords last July, is at Ping Pong stage.
