Appeal lodged for Clonroche wind farm

The Clonroche man who was planning to build a small wind farm outside the village has lodged an appeal with An Bord Pleanala after Wexford County Council refused planning permission in February.

Wexford County Council planners refused planning permission on February 23 for three wind turbines, an electricity sub station, ancillary buildings and incidental site works, to include site roads, in Clonroche.

Ballinclay Windfarms Ltd, (Edward Murphy) applied to Wexford County Council for permission to erect the turbines which lead to a campaign in the area against the initiative. The application stated that the tower heights would not exceed 85 metres and the rotor diameters were not to exceed 82 metres.

The anticipated output from the three turbines would have been approximately 6.9MWm, catering for the electricity needs of 2,500 people.

Mr Murphy began the project in 2002 and received the backing of some neighbours. He lodged an appeal on March 23 and a decision is due this summer.
