Town of Alexandria is poised to address industrial wind issue

Town of Alexandria is poised to address industrial wind issue.
That is a headline from the front page of this week’s Thousand Island Sun above a Pamela McDowell report.

The story seems to fall in line with what might be more recent thinking among Clayton, NY Town Board members who seem to be working toward a restrictive local law that would protect all of their citizens from potential impacts that may result from sacrificing a large portion of their town to industrial wind turbines.

The weekly Thousand Island Sun is available at outlets throughout the Thousand Islands and by subscription.

In 2012, the Town of Cape Vincent spent nearly a year in committee workshops with counsel and consultants developing local zoning protections that would apply to all development including tall Wind Energy Conversion Systems (wind turbines). The protections put in place by the Cape Vincent zoning took into consideration the heights of all tall structures and put into place various set-backs that depend on per foot of structure.

It appears that the Towns of Alexandria, Clayton, and Orleans may be considering cooperation in a more regional recognition of and protections from possible impacts of 600 ft. wind towers taking over the landscape of the Thousand Islands.
