US company NextEra Energy Resources has taken the wraps off plans to build up to 32 turbines at the 103.4MW Eight Point wind farm in western New York State.

Regulatory filings show that the project area encompasses 99,000 acres of land leased from private landowners in Steuben County.

The developer plans to apply for approval under the Siting Board’s Article 10 permitting process.

NextEra anticipates the interconnection facilities will include a new 115kV switchyard adjacent to the 115kV Bennett Substation and a 9-mile 115kV interconnection line.

The project will generate about 150 to 200 jobs during the eight months of construction and up to ten permanent operation and maintenance jobs during the 30-year expected life of the wind farm.

Eight Point is exptected to provide more than $25m in total property taxes and $24m in landowner payments, the developer said.

NextEra plans to hold public meetings in early summer before submitting a preliminary scoping statement and is eyeing a 2018 construction start date.
