Lewis Planning Board approves meteorologic tower in Pinckney

LOWVILLE – The Lewis County Planning Board on Thursday approved a temporary meteorologic tower for a possible new Tug Hill wind farm.

Board members voted 4-0 to approve installation of a 197-foot-tall tower off Route 177 in the town of Pinckney, near the Harrisburg town border, owned by Zeager Partnership Ltd. of Middletown, Pa.

The tower would be used by Iberdrola Renewables, Oregon, to test wind conditions for a new project called Deer River that could be developed in the towns of Pinckney, Harrisburg, and Montague, a company representative has said.

A side setback requirement would not be met, but the adjacent property is also owned by Zeager, according to Frank J. Pace, Lewis County director of planning. Approval was made contingent on getting a signed waiver from the property owner and obtaining necessary permits.

The board also approved a use variance for Mark Pominville to put four mobile homes on Route 12 in the town of Martinsburg.
