Bird impact concerns delay 350-MW near-shore wind tender in Denmark

The 350-MW near-shore wind tender in Denmark has been delayed due to concerns over the potential impact on a bird species, according to an announcement yesterday by the Danish Energy Agency.
The deadline for final bids has been postponed by one month, till May 4.
A new environmental assessment of the Sejero Bugt wind zone has concluded that an impact from an offshore wind farm there on a nearby bird sanctuary could not be excluded. Sejero Bugt is one of six zones that can be targeted in the tender.
The other five zones are Vesterhav Nord, Vesterhav Syd, Saeby, Smaalandsfarvandet and Bornholm. They can all hold up to 200 MW of installed capacity each, except for Bornholm, which can accommodate no more than 50 MW.
The agency last year prequalified three bidders for the 350-MW tender – Vattenfall, the European Energy Nearshore Consortium, and a joint venture between German wind power group Wpd AG and Danish utility Hofor. The plan is to have the tendered offshore wind capacity up and running by 2020.
