‘Monstrous turbines will ruin our village’ claim Edingale people

Outraged residents are calling on planning chiefs to turn down proposals to build two wind turbines in Edingale, which they say will “ruin their lives.”

Villagers have expressed their anger over the plans which they believe will blot the landscape and damage the character of the village.

They are now urging members of South Derbyshire District Council’s planning committee, who will discuss the proposals, to throw out the plans to protect their village.

One resident, who wished not to be named, said: “It’s widely known that wind turbines damage the environment and surely contradict what the National Forest is all about.

“Villagers are not only concerned about the present time but what happens when wind turbines go out of date.

“Villagers are at a loss as to why anyone would want to erect such monstrosities in an area of natural beauty.”

The proposals include the construction of two wind turbines which will have a hub height of 40.2 metres and a blade tip height of up to 57.64 metres, on land at Raddle Farm.

The proposals also include all the associated access routes.

Residents fear the turbines will also cause the devaluation of houses, noise pollution and the loss of nature conservation and their cultural heritage.

Despite Edingale having a Tamworth address, the village lies outside the jurisdiction of Tamworth Borough Council in Lichfield district.

But the location of Raddle Farm means it will be discussed by planning chiefs at South Derbyshire District Council in the coming months.

Margaret Jones, clerk at Edingale Parish Council, said: “We have only recently been made aware that the application has gone in and will be holding a meeting on Monday to discuss the proposals.

“This application came up in summer last year and back then, the council rejected the proposals due to the high volume of complaints from residents.

“The turbines will be a couple of miles outside the village, but they will still be visible from a few of the houses.

“We will wait and see what happens on Monday, but I would imagine that the councillors will follow how the residents feel and I think they will stick to what they said last year.”

Planning chiefs in South Derbyshire will have the final say on the plans once it is put before them in the near future.
