Great Yarmouth ‘gridlock’ as turbine falls off lorry

BBC News | 4 March 2016 | www.bbc.co.uk

A seaside resort has come to a standstill after part of a wind turbine fell off a lorry.

Several roads are closed in Great Yarmouth and motorists have been warned the town is “gridlocked”.

The machinery, which police described as “bigger than a car”, fell off a lorry on South Quay and rolled onto the pavement.

Damage to the road still needs to be assessed and engineers are on site, Norfolk County Council said.

Ch Insp Russell Wilkinson, from Norfolk Police, added: “We have to count our blessings that nobody has been injured.

“It is causing a lot of disruption in the town but fortunately nobody has been hurt.”
