Family with wind farm health concerns reaches agreement with NextEra

Melissa Hochmuth of NextEra Energy Resources told Stark County commissioners on Tuesday morning that her company has worked out an agreement with the family of Mike Schoch, a Schefield area resident, who had concerns about the transmission line for the planned Brady Wind Energy Center I.

Schoch had expressed concern in December at a county hearing to approve the wind farm about how radiation from a transmission line that was proposed to run near his land had potential health risks for his daughter, who was born with a health condition.

The commissioners advised NextEra to work with community members like the Schochs in remediating concerns in order to remain in the county’s good graces.

Commissioner Jay Elkin said Tuesday that he and the other commissioners had received an email from Schoch stating that his family and NextEra had come to an agreement, and that they had no more issues.

Schoch said in a phone interview Tuesday that he wouldn’t disclose what exactly his family had agreed upon with NextEra due to the signing of a confidentiality agreement, but he confirmed that they were satisfied with conditions as they now stand.
