A proposed wind farm in McIntosh and Dickey counties has overcome numerous hurdles and development plans are back on track.
That was the message delivered to McIntosh County commissioners at their Feb. 10 regular meeting.
Chris Sternhagen, central region development manager for EDF Renewable Energy, said construction of the Merricourt Wind Project could begin later this year.
The Merricourt project was first proposed in 2006. EnXco, now known as EDF, received a site permit from the North Dakota Public Service Commission in 2011.
But Twin Cities-based Xcel Energy canceled a contract to purchase power from the wind farm, leading to a lawsuit. A court ruling handed down in 2013 favored Xcel.
EDF subsequently made adjustments to the project and a new site permit was granted last year by the PSC.
