White bids to end row with Kelly on turbines

In a compromise White suggests 500 metre mandatory distance could be increased | By Michael Brennan and Jack Horgan-Jones on February 7, 2016 | www.businesspost.ie

Energy minister Alex White has suggested keeping large wind turbines farther away from large towns, in an effort to settle a row with environment minister Alan Kelly.

Kelly had been seeking to increase the mandatory distance between a wind turbine and a home from 500 to 600 metres. But White and the wind industry have warned that this could rule out the construction of any more wind farms because there are so many one-off houses scattered around the country.
