Wind turbine plans near Lough Derg purgatory

Plans are in the pipeline to erect two wind turbines in a scenic, remote area of south Donegal, east of Lough Derg, and close to the border with Tyrone.

A recently established company, Cunard Asset Management Limited, has lodged a pre-validation planning application with Donegal Co. Council seeking approval for a proposed development at Grousehall.

If the project goes ahead, it is planned to erect two turbines with a hub height of 63 metres, and a turbine tip height of 110 metres – almost the height of the iconic Spire in Dublin.

A natura impact statement has been submitted as part of the planning process and a ten year planning permission timeframe – for construction – is being sought.

Cunard Asset Management has a registered address in Co. Cavan, and its two directors are David Kearney and William Curran, both of whom have numerous other directorships.

The site is in a sparsely populated area not far from St. Patrick’s Purgatory on Lough Derg which attracts thousands of visitors and pilgrims every year.
