Major wind farm plan to come before Mid Ulster Council

A major wind farm scheme aimed at generating renewable energy for use in homes and businesses across Northern Ireland is to be considered by Mid Ulster Council.

TCI Rewables Limited (TCIR) is proposing the installation of 15 wind turbines on predominantly grassland, scrub, health and bogland used for sheep grazing on lands between Garvagh and Swatragh.

A planning application for the project has been submitted to Mid Ulster Council and Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council.

The consented wind turbines would have an installed capacity of up to 45MW, with a maximum height of 125m from base to tip.

If approved, the scheme which is of strategic importance in Northern Ireland will allow renewable energy produced at Brockaghboy Windfarm, reducing our reliance on imported fossil fuels.

To help navigate landowners through the various stages of the project, SONI has appointed Fergal Keenan as an Agricultural Liaison officer.

Mr Keenan, a dairy farmer from Gortin, has more than 20 years experience as a landowner liaison. Before joining SONI. He was with Wind NI, working with landowners on the siting of medium sized wind turbines.
