Planning authority turns down controversial Connemara windfarm

Galway Bay fm newsroom | January 8, 2016 | galwaybayfm.ie

A proposed windfarm in Connemara, which had been the subject of an oral hearing, has been turned down by the higher planning authority.

An Bord Pleanála has refused to allow 29 wind turbines at Killaguille, Letter, Uggool, Ardderroo and Finnaun.

During the oral hearing on the Connemara windfarm last year, local residents expressed concerns about the visual impact of the machines.

An Bord Pleanála has refused permission to Ardderroo Windfarm Limited for the development.

It states that the windfarm would be located within 15 kilometres of ten designated European sites.

The board ruled that the information in the Natura Impact Statement and other documentation is not adequate to show that the protected sites would not be adversely affected.

An Bord Pleanála also states that the information supplied on birds and bats was also inadequate.
