Bo’ness wind turbine proposal appeal is blown out

Kinneil Power LLP wanted to overturn a decision previously made by Falkirk Council in the summer that the structure would be a blot on the landscape.

This week, Holyrood’s Planning and Environment Appeals Division upheld the decision. The proposed turbine would have been 87 metres high, making it visible from the Kinneil estate, one of the reasons for the proposal being dismissed.

A government Reporter said: “The turbine, around 700 metres from the monument, would be very prominent beyond and above the tree belt fringing the southern boundary of the estate. In my view the moving turbine once noted would not easily be forgotten.”

Kinneil House is a category A listed building and the turbine would create an unacceptable visual impact on the house. David Liddell, a Reporter appointed by the Scottish Ministers to decide on the case concluded the setting of Kinneil House must be preserved.

Councillor Adrian Mahoney welcomed the decision, believing it was a victory for common sense. He said: “I am not against renewal energy, but this was the wrong application in the wrong location.”
