Giant wind farm approved as Mid-Murray Council gives the boot to plea from AFL boss Gillon McLachlan

More than 100 turbines have been approved for a new wind farm on the doorstep of AFL chief Gillon McLachlan’s century-old family sheep and cattle station – and many local residents are furious.
About 80 residents met at the Mid-Murray Council chambers today to hear the development assessment panel decision.
New Zealand-based TrustPower wants to build the $700 million wind farm along the ranges between Palmer, Tungkillo and Sanderston – right next to Mr McLachlan’s farm Rosebank, near Mt Pleasant.
Eastern Mount Lofty Ranges Landscape Guardians chairman Tony Walker, who lives in Eden Valley near the proposed wind farm, said residents would appeal the verdict.
“We have until the 18th of January to lodge an appeal to the Environment, Resources and Development Court of SA,” he said.
“(There was) no real in-depth examination of the internal structure of the proposal – it was considered in its entirety with almost no details.
