Woolfox wind farm plans refused at special meeting

By Alex Moore | Rutland Times |

Plans to build nine wind turbines on the old Woolfox Airfield site in Rutland have been refused.

Rutland county councillors voted to reject the application by energy firm RES at a special meeting at Rutland County Museum tonight (December 10).

The plans attracted strong local opposition, and planning officers seemed to have taken the views of the objectors on board when they recommended that councillors refuse to grant planning permission because of the impact the turbines would have on the landscape and local heritage.

And members of the council’s development and control committee took the recommendation on board, voting against the plans. Nine were in favour of refusal and one was against.

A separate application from RES to place solar panels on the same site is still being considered.

Check back later this week for a full report of the meeting.
