Wind farm plan rejected by councillors

Councillors have upheld their decision to reject a planning application for a wind farm at a site in Nantglyn.

An application was made by Brenig Wind Limited to build sixteen wind turbines as part of a wind farm on land to the east of Llyn Brenig.

Speaking in favour of the application, John Woodruff said that the plan would be a boost to the area economically.

He noted that there was more support for this application then those opposed, “there is four times as much correspondence in favour of this application then there is opposed to it,” he said.

But the local councillor, Joe Welch, objected saying that any increase in the size of the turbines would impact on the visual landscape of the area.

He said: “The local opposition is clear and there was correspondence in favour with some of it coming from as far away as Cambridge which is nice of them to take an interest but the strength of feeling is clear locally against this.”

Cllr Welch added that the fact sheet given to councillors in support of the application undermined the economic argument in favour.

He said: “It says exiting employees: zero, expected employees: zero. In fact the one thing the fact sheet does not include is how much money they will make from this and I looked into this and it is £37 million.”

Councillor Stuart Davies, said that no new evidence had been presented to address councillors concerns that were used for them to reject the application.

Councillors by twenty votes to three to reject the application.
