Wind farm site creates concern

The Berwickshire News | 03 December 2015 | www.berwickshirenews.co.uk

Opposition is already being expressed about the proposed wind farm at Howpark, Grantshouse, before it even reaches the planning application stage.

Energy company Livos submitted a pre-planning Proposal of Application Notice to Scottish Borders Council last week, they have sent out leaflets to local residents explaining their proposals for the windfarm, already held a public meeting in Grantshouse Village Hall and plan another community drop-in session on, Monday, December 14.

A Coldingham resident opposed to the development wrote to the company this week saying: “When we (the residents of the area and all four community councils) visited the Grantshouse Village Hall on September 24, to view the Livos proposals we seriously attempted to stop Livos from wasting their time and money on this dreadful application, telling them that it was a very bad site for a wind farm and that the SBC planning committee have already said that they will not permit/approve any more wind farms for the Drone Hill/Coldingham Moor area.”

A spokesperson for Livos said: “The proposed wind farm site at Howpark is the result of a detailed and lengthy site assessment and consultation process. The layout of the scheme is still to be finalised and a planning application will not be submitted until such time as all the potential impacts of the development have been identified and assessed.

“As part of the development process, Livos Energy has been working hard with the local community to elicit its views. Our first community drop-in session was well attended by the local community. We received some excellent feedback with many residents interested to understand how the development might benefit the local community.”

“To address this in more detail, a second community drop-in session is planned for December 14. This will present the development in more detail and include a community benefit workshop session to which all interested local residents are invited.

“As part of the event, we are also encouraging local businesses to discuss with us how they might be able to be a part of the construction process should a planning application be approved.”
