Invenergy warning

The Scranton Times-Tribune | December 3, 2015 | thetimes-tribune.com

Editor: Jessup residents need to do their homework in regards to Invenergy and its claims regarding the power plant. Invenergy came to Vermilion County, Illinois, claiming its wind power facility would be no problem for neighbors.

Our support for the project remained all the way through construction. Once the turbines started producing power, we were pounded by terrible noise, which immediately caused sleep problems inside our home, located 1,665 feet from the closest turbine.

I began asking Invenergy to turn off the turbines at night, but after a few months of occasional shutdowns, the company stopped providing any relief. We endured severe sleep deprivation and effectively lost the use of our home and property. We ultimately abandoned our home 11 months after Invenergy started producing electricity from these turbines. I feel stupid and I am ashamed of supporting and welcoming Invenergy’s project here.

I hope people can learn from the mistakes we made.

Since the Livingston County Board in Illinois rejected Invenergy’s wind farm application in July, certainly Jessup can do the same to protect its residents.

It is unfortunate our chance to do things right was squandered by unrefined short-sighted leaders and naive citizens here in Vermilion. From what I know of Jessup, it seems to me the community is too good to allow Invenergy to screw things up. Residents should not be so desperate to sell themselves out cheaply.
