Public consultation begins on proposed wind farm near Jenner

Public consultations are now underway on a wind power project proposed to be located near Jenner.

Joss Wind Power Inc. is proposing a 120-megawatt project to be located just east of Jenner, between Hwy. 884 on the western edge and Hwy. 555 along the southern and eastern boundary of the proposed project.

The project would include between 30 to 80 turbines – depending on the size of the turbines used – which would be placed on privately-owned land within the boundaries of Special Area No. 2.

If approved, the project would be able to supply power for the equivalent of 36,000 homes.

The project also has the potential to be expanded to 300 MWs and include a possible battery storage facility.

Joss Wind Power officials held its first public consultation meeting on Tuesday evening in Jenner.

The tentative project schedule would see the company file its initial applications with the Alberta Utilities Commission in the first quarter of 2016.

The company has already applied to the Alberta Electric System Operator (AESO) for modifications to the Jenner sub-station.

If the project is approved, Joss Wind could begin construction in the first half of 2017 and be tied in to the system by December 2017.
