Plans to erect a 187 ft high wind turbine in Kirby Bellars have been refused to the relief of more than 100 residents who objected.
The agents for the applicants, sheep farmers Mr and Mrs Stephens, said they needed to diversify to secure their farm’s future, also claiming their application at Pasture View Farm, Thorpe Satchville Road, was acceptable in planning terms.
But Melton Council’s planning committee heard the local community was strongly against the plans, with more than 100 people objecting compared to a small number in support.
Objector Tony Brockhurst, speaking on behalf of local residents, feared it would ‘introduce a whole new scale of turbine into the landscape’ and would have a ‘real adverse effect on the local landscape character.’
The committee rejected the plans on grounds it wasn’t satisfied the identified planning impacts had been addressed and therefore the proposal didn’t have the backing of the local community.
