Montney Hall to host meeting on proposed wind farm next week

The Montney Hall will be the site of an impact awareness meeting next week to discuss a wind farm being proposed for the region north of Fort St. John in Area B of the Peace River Regional District.

Organizer Delbert Benterud says the project already has the approval of the Agriculture Land Commission, but not the PRRD, and he’s extended invitations to both, to attend the Tuesday night meeting scheduled to begin at 7:30 PM.

The project proponent is U.K. based Renewable Energy Systems billed on its website as pioneers of wind turbine technology, and one of the world’s leading renewable energy companies, with over 30 years of industry experience.

Mr. Benterud would like more information from RES on this project noting his current understanding is, the 15 megawatt farm – to be built on private land – would include about six wind turbine towers.

He says while he can’t ‘validate or verify’ how much they will drop, as the owner of neighboring property, his chief concern goes to land values.

He’s hoping to get the PRRD to seriously consider community concerns prior to making its decision on the project, and he’s also concerned about what he sees as a lack of ALC consultation with area residents prior to its approval.

Mr. Benterud also confirmed an invitation has been extended to Peace River North MLA Pat Pimm, and/or other government representatives, to attend the meeting, to explain and discuss the province’s clean energy development policies.
