Row after wind turbine plans ‘pushed through’

A storm has erupted between two county councillors after a wind turbine near Llanybydder was approved under delegated powers by Ceredigion County Council officers in the face of strong local opposition.

Cllr Euros Davies, of Llanwenog, has expressed fury that the 48m wind turbine at Maesnewydd farm, Cwmsychbant received the green light without going back before planners and despite drawing 70 objections.

An original plan for a 68m turbine was turned down by a Welsh Government inspector, who also said that no turbine would be suitable for the location.

Cllr Euros Davies claims fellow councillor Peter Davies, of the neighbouring Capel Dewi ward, reneged on an agreement they had to ensure the revised application went back to committee.

“When I found out I went ballistic,” Cllr Euros Davies told the Cambrian News. “I must have called Peter every name under the sun.

“He told me he would take this back to committee so this was a U-turn on his part as far as I’m concerned.

“What really annoys me is the inconsistency we see in these wind turbine applications.

“While I’m certainly not opposed to wind turbines, I was really surprised that a 61m one in Bontgoch was recently approved under delegated powers.

“If this had gone back to planning and a democratic decision had been reached then I would have accepted there was nothing I could do about it.”
