Hundreds oppose peninsula turbine

Cornish Times | 13 November 2015 | www.looe-today.co.uk

Hundreds have spoken out against a 67m wind turbine proposed for land close to Whitsand Bay.

If erected, the single turbine between Freathy and Millbrook would be the first of its kind on the peninsula.

The proposal is being put forward by farmer David Turner in partnership with Community Power Cornwall (CPC), a social enterprise retaining a 25 per cent stake in the project, with shares on offer to local people.

More than 347 members of the public have stated objections to the scheme, with 48 people giving their support.

The Ministry of Defence (MoD), Environmental Health and all five Rame Peninsula parish councils have objected.

A CPC spokesperson expressed frustration that much public comment online was driven by information that was ‘simply not correct’ and added: ‘We would urge anyone with an interest in the turbine scheme, and those people who have objected, to read carefully the independent assessments… found on the planning portal.’
