Garvagh wind farm: Residents ‘pleased’ with Council decision

Residents living in the area of the proposed Cam Burn Wind farm say that they are ‘delighted’ that Council will address the Planning Appeals Commision in relation to the application.

The decision was made at a special meeting of Causeway Coast and Glens planning commitee on Monday night.

In a statement after the meeting, they said: “We are delighted that the Council voted for a hearing with the PAC.

“In the interests of democracy, this is the council’s opportunity to put the record straight.

“It’s a disgrace that the application was called in and it was shocking to discover the Minister’s reasons for doing so.

“We heard last week that Minister Durkan had approved this scheme, for 6 massive 120m wind turbines, at Cam Burn, Coleraine, in time to qualify for subsidies closure date.

“However, the Minister was forced to follow the legislation which governs the call in process, and it was great to hear confirmation at the meeting, from

Denise Dickson, Planning Manager, that planning approval has not been granted.

“Now that there’s finally full and proper attention being paid to the facts, there is no room for airbrushing out important information. We are hopeful that the representatives of the PAC will be impartial and will see the flaws in the planning and independent assessment documents in an open and transparent arena.”
