Turbine appeal begins today

An inquiry following an appeal against a county council refusal of controversial plans to site five 328 foot high wind turbines on land owned by a county councillor is due to start today (Tuesday).

Rhoscrowther Windfarm Ltd previously submitted an application to site the 100 metre high turbines on land owned by Hundleton county councillor John Allen-Mirehouse, near the Valero refinery.

The application, including associated works, was turned down by members of Pembrokeshire County Council’s January Planning and Rights of Way Committee.

A string of objections to the application had been received, backed by a 210 name petition. had objected on visual impact, potential harm to tourism, a fear of “creeping industrialisation”, and concerns that TV reception would be harmed.

In a move which has been condemned as “a bribe” in some quarters, the applicants had previously proposed a community benefit fund for local groups and projects, of £1.56m over the 25 year span of the windfarm, if granted.

The application was recommended for refusal on the grounds it would have a significant visual impact of the area.

An local inquiry into the appeal against the Pembrokeshire council decision is due to starts at Pembroke Dock’s Cleddau Bridge Hotel, from 10am on November 10.
