Trustpower scales back turbine numbers for proposed Palmer wind farm after public consultation

A proposal for a wind farm at Palmer, in South Australia’s Mid-Murray region, has been revised from 130 turbines to 114.

Trustpower is behind the 30 kilometre long, roughly 10,000 hectare wind farm, stretching from Palmer to Tungkillo and Sanderston.

The public consultation period has finished, with a range of submissions made in relation to the planning application.

Wind development manager Rontheo Van Zyl said a number of changes had been made to the original plan after consulting with the local area.

“The majority of changes that we have introduced were the result of our extensive consultation which we did prior to lodgement of the planning application … we initially had a total of 130 turbines which has been revised in the concept to 114 turbines which was submitted in the final application,” he said.

He said a panel hearing would hopefully be held before Christmas.

“So the panel hearing is the opportunity for any submitters and ourselves to do a presentation in support of those submissions to the panel,” he said.

“That panel then takes that and our submissions into consideration and to make a decision on our project.”

A decision on the proposed wind farm is expected by the end of the year.
