500 letters against turbine handed over

Cambrian News | 28 October 2015 | www.cambrian-news.co.uk

Opponents to plans for a 67-metre wind turbine which they claim will be a “blight” and dominate the Cardigan skyline, have handed over a stack of objection letters to Ceredigion council.

Protesters against the scheme at Oernant farm gathered on the steps of the council offices at Penmorfa in Aberaeron on Friday to hand over the objections.

Members of No Oernant Wind Turbine (NOWT) fear that, if approved, the application could “open the floodgates” for similar turbines in the area and claim it will “dominate” the Cardigan skyline.

However, supporters of the turbine – which would be situated on land owned by town councillor Richard Jones – say it could have far-reaching benefits for Cardigan.

NOWT spokesman David Harrison-Wood, who runs Caemorgan Mansion, a five-star graded guest house and restaurant just 300 metres away from the site, is worried the scheme will affect tourism and business.
