Plans to build wind turbine bigger than Big Ben in Eythorne

Plans to build wind turbine bigger than Big Ben in Eythorne - LATEST Dover Express | October 22, 2015 | www.dover-express.co.uk

Villagers are celebrating following the rejection of plans for a wind turbine and more than 20 new homes in Eythorne.

The 100-metre turbine – taller than the Big Ben clock tower – would have been erected at Barville Farm in Barville Road.

Dover District Council rejected the proposals, but the developer launched an appeal. On October 12, this was turned down by The Planning Inspectorate.

Planning inspector John Braithwaite said the turbine would have had a negative effect on the character of the landscape that outweighed the environmental benefits.

District councillor Mog Ovenden told the Express the decision was a victory for “people power”. The Tory councillor added: “It’s fantastic for the village and the community.”

An appeal over DDC’s rejection of plans for 26 dwellings on land at Monkton Court Lane was also snubbed by The Planning Inspectorate.

Inspector Cullum Parker raised concerns over the “significant loss of the best and most versatile agricultural land” and the effect of the proposed development on the character of the area.
