Turbine ‘too big for area’ is approved

Cambrian News | 22 October 2015 | /www.cambrian-news.co.uk

Councillors voted against a site inspection meeting before approving the construction of a 67-metre wind turbine at Ystumtuen.

At a Ceredigion County Council planning meeting on Wednesday, 14 October, the chair of the committee and local member for Ystumtuen, Cllr Rhodri Davies, was temporarily replaced by Cllr Lyndon Lloyd as Mr Davies argued for a site inspection panel meeting before any decision was made.

But Mr Davies lost the argument by a hefty margin as councillors voted instead to go with the officers recommendations and approve the turbine subject to conditions regarding the monitoring and control of noise.

Objections from local residents centred around the size of the turbine, which Mr Davies said would be 30m higher than the turbines already located at the Ystumtuen wind farm.

Cllr Davies said: “Why this has been brought to committee is because of the very big wind turbine that is proposed.

“I am not against turbines on farms and I do support wind farms in general, but I am concerned this will be too big for the area. We must listen to local residents so I propose a site visit.”
