Sibley, Iowa – A public hearing on a proposed Tax Increment Financing or “TIF” agreement will be held at the Osceola County Courthouse on Tuesday, October 20, 2015 at 9:00 AM.
A suit has been drafted by a group of concerned citizens. A spokesperson for the group, Al Brueggeman says that the proposed TIF plan would divert $3,537,520 from county budgets. He says the plan would use the diverted taxes to improve the Harris sewer system and pave 1 mile of White Avenue.
According to Brueggeman, local landowners and county taxpayers have been in opposition of diverting these tax revenues since the wind farm was constructed. He says this is the last year the tax revenue from the wind turbines can be diverted from going on the tax rolls.
Brueggeman says a group of concerned citizens plan to challenge the county and city actions in court.
