Apex Clean Energy has once again filed proposals with the Federal Aviation Administration to place more wind turbines in the Coastal Bend.
The company originally proposed building more than 170 wind turbines near Chapman Ranch, but the deal never went through .Now, they have filed proposals for clearance to build another 58 wind turbines near Petronila. Each turbine would measure about 500 feet tall, according to the company’s application.
However, airport officials are concerned about the potential risks for air traffic, saying the windmills could interfere with radar.
A spokesman with the FAA said a meeting will be held Wednesday afternoon to discuss the proposal further.
Kiii News Reporter Heather Gustafson looked into this latest proposal and came back with the details.
