Wind turbine foes endorse Somerset, Yates candidates

The Buffalo News | October 15, 2015 | www.buffalonews.com

SOMERSET – Save Ontario Shores, the citizens’ group opposing a major wind turbine project in Somerset and Yates, announced Thursday its endorsement of candidates running for office in the two towns in the Nov. 3 election.

In Somerset, that means Supervisor Daniel M. Engert and Councilmen Jeffrey M. Dewart and Randall J. Wayner, all Republican incumbents. In Yates, the group’s nod went to challengers James J. Simon for supervisor and John B. Riggi and Glenn R. Maid for councilmen. Riggi, running on the GOP line, is the president of the SOS group. Maid is running as a Conservative and Simon is a write-in candidate after losing the GOP primary to incumbent Supervisor John B. Belson by seven votes.

SOS’ announcement praised the Somerset officials for leading the fight against the Apex Clean Energy plan to erect as many as 70 wind turbines in the two towns. The Yates board “continues to gather information,” the news release said.
