Engineer group predicts says wind and solar will increase Ontario carbon emissions

Engineer Group Predicts Says Wind and Solar Will Increase Ontario Carbon Emissions | By Janice MacKay on October 14, 2015 | blackburnnews.com

A report from the Ontario Society for Professional Engineers predicts carbon emissions will double in Ontario as more wind and solar projects are added.

The report says all of Ontario’s nuclear reactors would need expensive engineering changes to provide flexible back up power.

And that means Ontario is relying on natural gas as a back up for wind and solar.

The report claims that nuclear generation must be reduced to make room for more natural gas generation.

It says as Ontario phases out nuclear capacity to make room for wind and solar, CO2 emissions will double.

Ontario currently produces electricity at less than 40 grams of CO2 emissions/kWh.

But by 2032, that will increase to about 200 grams of CO2 emissions/kWh.
