Walkers raising funds for windfarm group

Carrick Gazette | 27 September 2015 | www.carricktoday.co.uk

A group of campaigners took a stroll in the countryside to raise funds for Save Straiton for Scotland .

Over £760 was raised at the Straiton Stroll to support the campaign protecting the stunning landscape and communities around Straiton from what the walkers called ‘inappropriate industrial development’.

The campaign, organised by Save Straiton for Scotland, has attracted support from the local area as well as people from across Scotland, the UK and worldwide.

Walkers enjoyed fine views of the village and hills while building up an appetite for a tasty barbecue and delicious desserts.

Donations came from all quarters; even one of the barbecues, complete with burgers and two bottles of wine was auctioned off. The raffle didn’t disappoint either.

Chair of Save Straiton, Lala Burchall-Nolan, gave an update on the campaign to protect the area from no less than six wind farms.

She mentioned the forthcoming Public Inquiry into Keirs Hill windfarm starting on the 28th September in Dalmellington Community Centre.

Several walkers from the village of Waterside which the group say would be ‘profoundly affected’ by Keirs Hill had joined walkers from Straiton, Crosshill, Kirkmichael, Girvan, and even Edinburgh.

Local photographer, Anthony Dawson, was among the walkers and took some great pictures of the beautiful countryside.
