Controversial wind turbine plans rejected

A controversial plan to build another wind farm in the Isle has been unanimously rejected by councillors.

John Briggs, councillor for Axholme North, said he was ‘delighted’ at the decision.

“I am delighted by the decision. I argued that enough is enough, it is time to draw a line in the sand, no more wind farms.

“The local community did not want it, and the ward councillors did not want it.

“I told the wind farm operators that we have done our fair share and we don’t want them here anymore. They need to go away now.”

The proposal for a six turbine wind farm on land off Godnow Road, Crowle was unanimously refused by North Lincolnshire Council this afternoon, in line with recommendations.

Mr Briggs has now also called to moratorium.

Chair of the planning committee Councillor Nigel Sherwood said he would look in to this request.

Earlier this year, planning rules on wind farms were tightened up and all taxpayer subsidies for on-shore wind farms was removed.

Isle MP, Andrew Percy, who was a part of the parliamentary campaign to bring these subsidies to an end, had also previously condemned the proposals.

He said: “There are far too many wind farms running from the north of the Isle up to Goole. Literally, you can now see wind turbines in every direction.

“These continue to be added to by wind farms that received planning permissions some years ago but are only slowly being built.

“Residents have been very clear with me that we feel we have taken our fair share locally, which is why I have campaigned for a greater say for residents on these applications, and an end to taxpayers subsidizing these projects.

He added: “We do not want anymore and I hope councillors will listen to residents and reject the proposal.”

North Lincolnshire Council planning committee received 50 letters of objection and one of support.

Local residents raised concerns about the plans, including the visual impact and an increase in noise pollution.

One Godnow Road resident said: “At any point in Crowle you can already see at least 60 turbines within a 20 mile radius.

“In addition traffic generation from construction and the proposed site is encroaching onto the village boundaries and will further ruin the rugged, rural beauty of the area.”

Further objections came from neighbouring properties on Godnow Road, who were concerned about the impact on a nearby children’s play area and an equestrian centre for disadvantaged people, which requires a calm and peaceful environment

There was also a concern that these turbines would be too close to residential properties.
