Controversial Illogan turbine plans given green light

Plans for a controversial new wind turbine in Illogan have been passed at a meeting held in Penzance yesterday.

The proposal from Pool-based Capture Ltd went before Cornwall Council’s West Sub-Area Planning Committee in Penzance on Monday, with councillors giving the plans an almost unanimous green light.

The structure will reach a tower height of 37 metres (121 feet), with a tip height of 49 metres (160 foot).

The application has sparked a series of angry posts on the Cornwall Council planning website from local residents who shared concerns over a lack of public consultation about the plans, the visual effect the turbine will have and noise pollution.

Cornwall councillor for Redruth North Lisa Dolley, who put forward the notion that the plans were passed, said: “The plans were well supported and many of the comments online came from the same people who posted numerous times, repeating themselves.

“The turbine will be over 300 kilometres away from the nearest private dwelling.”
