South Australia crown land opened to wind farming

Crown land in South Australia is open for wind-farming business.

Laws coming into effect on Saturday enable wind energy developers to apply for 25-year licences to use pastoral lease land in SA, with the option to renew the licence for a further quarter century.

Previously wind farm licences had to be sub-leased under finite Crown land leases, while the new laws allow developers to co-exist alongside an existing pastoral lease.

Climate Change Minister Ian Hunter says the Pastoral Land Management and Conservation Amendment Act also improves access to Crown land for solar developments.
