Arbuckle Wind Farm location upsets some residents

After nearly two years of planing construction is underway on one Texoma wind farm. But some residents are saying it is an eye sore.

“It just, it doesn’t sit real well,” lifelong Murray County resident Barry Shrader said.

EDP Renewables Development Project Manager Rorik Peterson, says the Arbuckle Mountains provide a great wind source for the farm.

But, Shrader says it is an eye sore.

“It’s kinda hard to take with a windmill sitting on some of the oldest mountains in the world,” Shrader said.

The 50 wind turbines being placed in the Arbuckles will make up a 100 megawatt wind farm.

The power will be sent north to the Lincoln Electric System in Nebraska where it will be distributed down there.

Peterson says the wind farm has provided more than 200 construction jobs for Oklahomans.

“Wind you know, is a clean energy, it is renewable, but I sure wish they could have built the wind farm somewhere else,” Shrader said.

“I think they are going to be really good,” resident Dolores Billy said. “For energy saving and I think it is going to be a good thing for the community and the area and the world.”

Billy says she doesn’t mind the Arbuckle Wind Farm’s location.

“That is a good place,” Billy said. “And they are actually cleaning a lot of trees out and opening it up.”

The Arbuckle Wind Farm is set to be finished by the end of the year and provide ten to 15 permanent jobs.
