Wind turbine hearing continued

A hearing on the Town of Falmouth’s application for a special permit from the zoning board of appeals to continue operating one of two wind turbines, Wind 1, has been continued to Thursday, October 29.

After voting to discuss the issue prior to other agenda items that had been scheduled at its meeting Thursday, September 10, night, the appeals board addressed a letter it received from town counsel Frank K. Duffy Jr. Mr. Duffy, board member Paul Murphy said, requested that the hearing be continued to October 29 when there will be a full contingent of board members present. Neither board chairman Kimberly A. Bielan nor vice chairman Kenneth H. Foreman were able to attend the hearing.

Prior to a vote, attorney Christopher Senie, who represents a dozen neighbors who live near the wind turbine, said that he received a phone call from the town’s zoning administrator, Sari D. Budrow, last Friday advising him that the board and the town would like to continue the hearing.

“She gave me a little bit of info about why we are extending out so far,” he said, adding that the matter is “somewhat urgent” and asking whether the board could elaborate on other dates that were considered.

Ms. Budrow responded that she spent three days communicating with all of the attorneys, including Mr. Senie, the board and others involved to find a date that worked for everyone. She explained why each of the possible dates prior to October 29 would not work, due to schedule conflicts, other zoning board hearings and meeting rooms being occupied by other town boards.

“That left me to find a date that would satisfy everybody and that date is October 29,” she said.

The discussion was followed by a vote to approve the continuation. About eight of the 15 attendees seated in the audience exited the meeting room, leaving the board to the remainder of its agenda.
