Energy company forges ahead with plans for 10 wind turbines at Fulbeck airfield

An opposition group says people are ‘astounded’ that an energy company has gone ahead with plans for 10 wind turbines at Fulbeck airfield.

EnergieKontor is pressing ahead with plans for the turbines, each 110m (360ft) high, on the former World War Two airfield and farmland at Fulbeck. It has submitted its plans to SKDC.

Fulbeck Airfield is only 1.5 miles from the proposed Temple Hill Wind Farm, which was rejected by district councillors in March.

Paul Miley, spokesman for reVOLT, which campaigned against the Temple Hill plan, said: “Our campaign was all about appropriate renewables – this community already has an operational solar farm, a second under construction and Fulbeck Airfield is currently used to collect straw for the renewable energy plant at Sleaford. By disregarding previous local decisions and ignoring the overwhelming majority of local residents and businesses opposed to such developments, this smacks of opportunism.

“Is this an arrogant industry trying to challenge new national planning guidance, or a final scramble before the wind farm subsidy pot runs out?”

reVOLT said the government recently made it clear that wind farms should only be approved where they have the support of the community. It said it is therefore essential that local people make their views known by sending an objection to SKDC by letter, email or via the online planning portal.
