Turbine blades back on road after being stranded in Sioux City

Journal Staff | Sioux City Journal | August 26, 2015 | siouxcityjournal.com

Stranded in Sioux City for 10 days, three trucks carrying giant wind turbine blades got rolling again Tuesday.

The trucks were stranded at the Riverside exit on Interstate 29 since Aug. 15 because the blades proved too long to go through the ongoing construction on Interstate 29 or access Highway 12.

So, to reach their designation in Omaha, the trucks were rerouted across the Missouri River into South Sioux City. That required closing the Siouxland Veterans Memorial Bridge and Wesley Parkway/U.S. Highway 77 interchange to other traffic for portions of two hours Tuesday morning.

One by one, the trucks made their way to the bridge after making wide turns at the entrance. As law enforcement officers directed traffic, motorists waited for their turn to cross, while some pedestrians stopped to watched the spectacle from afar.
