Opposition to wind farm in Clinton County, concern for agriculture

Credit:  Clinton County Leader | August 13, 2015 | www.clintoncountyleader.com ~~

Efforts to establish a large windmill farm in Clinton County are underway again. I am writing in opposition to this project. I urge all others to speak up against the project. This project answers no Clinton County need. NextEra Energy Resources, a huge Corporation from Florida, is the promoter of the wind farm. They are the owner of Florida light and Power. Florida light and Power serves 4.8 million customers. By comparison Kansas City Power and light serves 800,000 customers.

NextEra’s plan would deface the community with their windmills, and take their tax credits and profits back to Florida. Their plans have been costly to the County. Additional costs are likely. NextEra is already talking about tax breaks on potential Clinton County taxes.

Northern Clinton County is endowed with gentle rolling land that is highly productive and scenic. We have avoided the ills of urbanization and unsightly environmental damage.

The windmills are an insult to the beauty of our county. The windmills are initially impressive. But ugly they are, and pretty they aren’t.

We are fortunate to enjoy the beauty of this land and its productivity. It is bestowed on us by powers far beyond my comprehension. Our time to enjoy the land is brief and fleeting. With our care the beauty of our land will be preserved long into the future. We have the responsibility to care for this land so that succeeding generations can also enjoy its beauty and production.

Windmills have no place in the proper stewardship of our land.
