Second wind turbine planned for Heath and Reach

Developers have today unveiled plans to build a second wind turbine at Heath and Reach.

This morning (August 3) a letter was sent out to villagers outlining plans for a second, identical turbine at Double Arches quarry.

The current wind turbine stands at 450ft high – twice the height of the spire of All Saints Church – and was the biggest onshore turbine in the UK when it was constructed in November 2014.

Proposals for a second wind turbine are being made by Checkley Wood Energy Ltd, a subsidiary of landowners Arnold White Estates, who were behind the previous turbine.

In the letter sent to Heath and Reach residents, it is stated: “The Double Arches turbine has proved to be a very successful project at the right location, and the company wish to replicate it.

“Arnold White Renewables originally scoped the Double Arches site as a two turbine site, and is now seeking to complete its original vision. This will be the final turbine at Double Arches, with design constraints limiting the site to a maximum of two turbines.”

A planning application has yet to be submitted, and agents Engena Ltd have given residents until August 14 to submit their comments to them beforehand.

Reactions so far to the proposals have been mixed.

One man told the LBO: “Arnold White Estates promised there would only be one turbine and now they’ve gone back on their word.”

A woman added: “This new turbine will be even more in my eyeline. Last time, lots of people got their TV aerials affected, and there was no recompense for that.”
