Residents turn out to fight wind turbine appeal

Pendle Today | 03 August 2015 | www.pendletoday.co.uk

A Nelson councillor is backing the campaign to stop a wind turbine being built on land just off Back Lane in Southfield.

Nelson Town Council’s Coun. Neil McGowan is backing opponents of the turbine and this week described them as “Monstrous structures” and the number of them as an “invasion”.

The application proposing to build the turbine was rejected at committee but the developer, DC21, appealed the decision meaning it would have to go to the planning inspector to decide.

This week, the inspector visited the site in Nelson where Coun. McGowan and approximately 40 local residents turned out to show their opposition to the proposals and voice them directly to the inspector.

Coun. McGowan said, “We seem to be facing an invasion of wind turbines which will industrialise the rural landscape of Pendle.

“The impact on our beautiful countryside here in Southfield will be particularly dramatic as theses monstrous structures are visible for miles around.

“It has become apparent we are being held hostage to land owners who are only interested in their own pocket rather than local heritage.

“The support from local people that came out to show their feelings to the inspector was remarkable and hopefully he will think twice about granting the application.”

The inspector’s finding will be announced shortly along with the final decision.
