BARRY, Ill. – A one-vehicle crash left a vertical shaft for a wind turbine alongside Interstate 72 near Barry.

The Illinois State Police District 20 reports that a 2003 Mack truck tractor pulling an oversized load on a flat trailer driven by Jerry E. Terrell, 60, of Livingston, Texas, was traveling westbound on the interstate at Milepost 21 near Barry at 10:12 a.m. A preliminary investigation indicates Terrell lost control and ran off the road, ISP reported, and as the vehicle came to rest, the trailer overturned, spilling the wind turbine shaft.

Terrell, who suffered minor injuries, was ticketed for improper lane usage.

One westbound lane of the interstate was closed while the crash site was cleared.

ISP was assisted by Barry Fire and Rescue.
